Summer 2015 - Peru on fulbright
To educators/other teachers: I hope you find my Fulbright-related lessons and pictures shared especially helpful in helping you add an element of real culture into your classroom :) Below I answer some questions with regards to the experience:
To the parents/guardians of my students: Hello and welcome to the Travel Abroad page. As a foreign language teacher I am always looking for ways to make the learning of a foreign language more real for my students. Summer 2015 granted me an amazing opportunity to go on a Fulbright trip to Peru with two professors from Towson University and a group of amazing teachers from around the country. Below I answer some questions with regards to the experience:
1. What were your experiences teaching the lessons you developed while in Peru? Did the lessons go well? What did you learn about the lessons? Have the lessons been amended to address any concerns you may have had while teaching them?
I created lessons for my Spanish 1 and 3 classes based on my experiences in Peru. The lessons went well and I am currently working on modifying them in order to use them with my Spanish 2 classes this school year. Students enjoyed learning about Peru and were inquisitive about my personal experience exploring the country. A brief video highlighting some of our work with a select group of students is included below.

2. How have you met your obligation to disseminate the lessons you developed while in Peru? Did you enjoy and benefit from the dissemination process?
I was able to present my first draft of lessons to my Teach for America Spanish cohort in October of 2015. The presentation focused on how teachers can benefit from centering a unit around a single travel abroad experience. The presentation for that meeting can be found HERE.
In Spring of 2016 I was chosen, along with a fellow Fulbrighter, to present our Fulbright experience at the Maryland Foreign Language Association (MFLA) Spring Conference. The presentation we created for this conference will be uploaded here in the near future.
3. What additional steps are you taking to bring your lessons to the attention of educators and administrators? How might others in the group benefit from your efforts to bring your lessons to the attention of others?
I have created this Weebly to host all of my classroom materials and my Fulbright-related lessons.
Additional photos from the trip will be posted throughout this 2016-2017 school year as I sort through them. The slideshow below are some of the quick favorites I have picked out from both the Fulbright trip and Spring Break in the Dominican Republic with coworkers.
